On behalf of Hotel Association of Canada-The Voice and Vision
of the Canadian Accommodation Industry, it is my great pleasure
to extend our congratulations on the launch of MICE China
magazine.
In today's globalized business world, the hotel industry and
its suppliers are faced with a multitude of challenges and
opportunities. In an emerging market-China, where the leisure
& business travel industries are growing so rapidly, additional
sources of information are very important. Hopefully, MICE
China will serve as a communication bridge between China’s
MICE planers & buyers and member hotels of Hotel Association
of Canada.
In 2004, Canada welcomed 100,000 Chinese visitors each staying
an average of 12 nights broken down as follows 37% are 4 to
7 nights, 35% are 8 to 14 nights, 14% are 15 to 21 nights
and 14% are over 22 nights and spending $1791 each. It is
expected that 700,000 Chinese visitors will come to Canada
in the next few years.
Canada has been granted preliminary Approved Destination Status
in 2005, and in the face of an increasing number of Chinese
tourists to Canada, the Hotel Association of Canada has produced
the extensively circulated and well received "Canadian Hospitality
for Chinese Guests"to create a most agreeable environment
for Chinese tourists.
Hotel Association of Canada has been working closely with
the Canadian Tourism Commission and Air Canada to promote
Canada as an ideal leisure & MICE destination on the strength
of our first class facilities and service.

President of Hotel Association of Canada
