Guangzhou Travel Agencies Sign Thailand Trip Agreements
14/9/2006
Juthamas Siriwan, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, has come to Guangzhou to sign a "double compensation" agreement with dozens of travel agencies in Guangzhou to provide high quality travel service to Thailand.
Thailand has been a top choice of outbound trips for Guangdong citizens, but following recent reduced travel fees for Thailand trips, the quality for the trips also has fallen.
Siriwan said that the low fares have brought negative influences for Thailand. As a result, the number of Chinese tourists to Thailand has decreased to the current 800,000 from 3 million in the past.
According to their new agreement, tourists can make complaints for unscheduled arrangements and unwanted shopping during their stay in Thailand, and they will get double compensation if the problems they report are proven true.
At present, the price for a low-fare Thailand trip is lower than RMB2000, but the qualified trip will be 10%-20% higher than that, usually over RMB2300.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand has also announced that they already worked out a price list for those items that tourists need to pay by themselves. It has listed the 27 items that have been approved by the government which travel groups will receive upon their arrival in the country.
