JAL Expands UNICEF Campaign On All International Flights
16/10/2006
From November 1, 2006, Japan Airlines will expand the UNICEF Change for Good fundraising campaign to all international flights operated by JAL and JALways.
Change for Good involves collecting spare change in different currencies from passengers on international flights. The money raised is used by UNICEF to help children in more than 157 countries around the world.
Up to now JAL has featured the UNICEF campaign on three routes between Tokyo and London, Paris and New York, altogether up to six flights per day or a maximum of 42 per week.
From November, JAL is expanding the campaign to all international flights, including routes flown by its subsidiary, JALways¨Cin total about 490 flights a week. JAL asks passengers to make donations through the airline's in-flight magazine Skyward and by an in-flight video shown on all international flights.
Passengers can ask for Change for Good donation envelopes in the cabin and can hand over the donation directly to cabin attendants. JAL later delivers all the donations directly to UNICEF's Japan headquarters.
In further support of UNICEF, JAL also has Change for Good collection boxes at passenger lounges in Narita and Kansai airports. Money from these boxes and from other collecting points in Japan is transported abroad by JAL to the currency exchange points.
Japan Airlines has been a corporate supporter for UNICEF Japan since 1991. JAL aircraft display the UNICEF logo to bring the organization to public attention. The airline also helps to raise funds by selling UNICEF greetings cards in-flight and at company retail outlets. JAL has also promoted UNICEF through the airline's in-flight magazine, in-flight video programming, street collection campaigns, and through donations of JAL Mileage Bank frequent flyer mileage for the relief of Sumatra tsunami victims.
