CCH Takes Pole Position in International Competition
22/5/2006
The CCH-Congress Center Hamburg is moving into pole position in international competition, with its forward looking Masterplan 2015. This provides for a financial framework of 44 million euros, to create a unique conference centre with the construction of a 7000 square metre multi-function exhibition hall and a new conference area on two floors. At the same time, the adjacent halls and foyers are to be modernised, creating flexible spaces. The new facilities enable CCH to meet all requirements for a modern conference centre, and to take a leading position in the conference market worldwide. ¡°This unique conference concept is a milestone for Hamburg and the ¡®Metropolitan region of Hamburg ¨C a growing city¡¯¡±, said Gunnar Uldall, Hamburg¡¯s Senator for Economic and Labour Affairs, at the press conference for the topping out ceremony for the new exhibition hall, in the CCH on 8 May 2006. ¡°The expansion of the CCH means money well invested in the future of Hamburg as a conference and event centre, and in the development of the metropolitan region as a whole.¡±
This addition of the new exhibition hall means that the CCH now has total exhibition space of 12,000 square metres. The new hall will be commissioned in September 2006, after a construction period of only 16 months. Together with the conference area currently in construction, CCH will in future have more than 43 fully air-conditioned conference rooms. On completion of the building activity, the CCH will have seating for a total of 16,000 people. But the compact design of the conference centre means that distances are still kept to a minimum ¨C conferences and their accompanying exhibitions can be held close together under one roof and at one level.
The expansion of the CCH is designed for optimal integration of the new building in the landscaped park ¡°Planten un Blomen¡±, since the exhibition hall is at underground level, and the roof is designed for people to walk on. Europe¡¯s largest roof garden will be created there by spring 2007, with 60,000 plants and shrubs on some 8000 square metres of space. All the logistics are accommodated at basement level, so that no additional green spaces are needed for logistic purposes.
